Communication is the core of efficiency and teamwork in a digital-transformed world that depends largely on the flow of communication. The trend has changed significantly from the mere phone calls and emails to complex systems that combine one’s voice, video, messaging, and AI in a single uninterrupted environment. Such a transition has given rise to the unification communication platforms (UCPs) that denote the next stage of business communication, where the smart use of technology and intelligence facilitates greater connectivity, effectiveness, and quicker workplaces. The Early Days: From Voice to VoIP Unified communication's first major innovation, single-handedly changed everything: Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP revolutionized communication, as it brought the idea of making calls over the internet, which eliminated the use of expensive traditional phone lines, and thus bridged the distance between the two for a very low amount of money. Moreover, alongside these new developments, we can mention Skype and the first VoIP-based telephony systems as platforms that enabled a radical shift in integrated communication. On the other hand, VoIP dropped the prices of voice communication significantly but did not bring together the various means of communication, such as emails, instant messages, video calling, and file sharing, into a single user-friendly interface. With the market being so fragmented in that way, it was very likely that a company would be inefficient, which in turn led to it requiring a more effective and integrated solution. Teams had to switch between multiple platforms for different purposes: Zoom for meetings, Slack for chat, Gmail for emails, and phone systems for calls. The constant switching between different tools not only took time, but it also resulted in a decrease in productivity, failure to keep up with communications, and workflows that were not continuous. In order to unify communications, businesses require a system that could integrate all their communication channels into one single system. These systems were created to facilitate user interaction with one system instead of several - communication via phone or video, chat, file sharing, synchronization of CRM, etc., all under one simple and easy-to-manage interface. Faster collaboration, real-time decision-making, and better customer experiences. What Exactly Are Unified Communication Platforms Unified Communication Platforms (UCPs) refer to systems that negate the need for several channels as they accommodate various communication means through one interface. Generally, these platforms:
