Introduction: Why Yelan Deserves a Spot on Your Team
Welcome, fellow Travelers, to the deep dive you’ve been waiting for! If you’ve pulled the enigmatic and utterly devastating Hydro Bow user, Yelan, you’re holding a ticket to some of the highest damage ceilings in Genshin Impact. Often overshadowed by her Hydro counterpart, Xingqiu, Yelan is anything but a budget substitute. She is a powerhouse of off-field Hydro application, massive personal damage, and team-wide buffs.
But unlocking her true potential isn't as simple as slapping on the first artifacts you find. This comprehensive Genshin Guide will break down everything you need to know to build Yelan as a top-tier Main DPS or, more commonly, an elite Sub-DPS/Off-Field Hydro Trigger. We're talking stats, weapons, artifacts, constellations, and team synergy. Let's dive into the currents!
Understanding Yelan’s Role: The Silent Executor
Before we start farming, it’s crucial to understand what makes Yelan tick. Her primary strength lies in her Skill (Elemental Skill) and Burst (Elemental Burst).
The *Elemental Skill, Lingering Lifeline, allows her to dash rapidly, marking enemies. When the dash ends, she deals significant Hydro damage based on her Max HP. This is great for quick damage and mobility.
The Elemental Burst, Depth-Clarion Dice, is where the magic happens. It summons an Exquisite Throw that deals Hydro damage coordinated with the active character’s Normal Attacks. Crucially, it also grants the active character a damage bonus that scales with the number of different elements present in the team (up to 50% DMG Bonus). This scaling, combined with massive multiplier scaling based on her Max HP, makes her a premier off-field damage dealer.
Key Takeaway: Yelan scales almost exclusively with Max HP, not ATK. This dramatically changes how you approach artifact substats and weapon choices.
Artifact Sets: Choosing the Right Current
Artifact selection is pivotal for Yelan. Since she relies heavily on her Burst uptime and high damage multipliers based on HP, we need sets that boost Hydro damage, Burst efficiency, and overall damage output.
5-Piece Sets (The Best of the Best)
1. Emblem of Severed Fate (4-Piece) - The Universal Best
This set remains the gold standard for most Burst DPS characters, and Yelan is no exception.
2-Piece Bonus: +15% Energy Recharge (ER). 4-Piece Bonus: Increases Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of Energy Recharge.
Why it’s the best: Yelan has a high energy requirement (70 energy) and needs high ER to ensure her Burst is always ready. The 4-piece bonus converts that necessary ER directly into substantial Burst Damage, perfectly aligning with her scaling. Aim for 200%+ ER with this set.
2. Tenacity of the Millelith (4-Piece) - The Support Option
If you are running a team where Yelan is purely there to buffer the Main DPS (like Raiden Shogun or Ayato) and you don’t mind slightly lower personal damage, this is viable.
2-Piece Bonus: +20% Max HP. 4-Piece Bonus: Hitting an enemy with an Elemental Skill increases the entire team's ATK by 20% and shields by 30% for 3s.
Why it works: The 2-piece gives her more HP, leading to better Skill damage and a higher trigger threshold for the 4-piece effect. However, typically, the raw damage output from Emblem outweighs the utility of this set unless your team composition desperately needs the ATK buff.
Hybrid Options (Mixing and Matching)
If you haven't farmed a perfect 4pc Emblem set, combining two 2-piece sets works well, prioritizing Energy Recharge and HP.
2pc Emblem (ER) + 2pc Tenacity (HP): A very solid stepping stone, balancing Energy needs with HP scaling. 2pc Emblem (ER) + 2pc Heart of Depth (Hydro DMG): If you have absurdly high ER rolls, you can pivot slightly towards Hydro damage, but be careful about Burst uptime.
Artifact Main Stats and Substats Priorities
Forget ATK%. Focus entirely on maximizing HP, Crit, and Energy Recharge.
Main Stats:
| Artifact Piece | Recommended Main Stat | Notes | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Flower | Flat HP | Fixed stat. | | Feather | Flat ATK | Fixed stat (ignore ATK%). | | Sands | Energy Recharge (ER) or HP% | See breakdown below. | | Goblet | Hydro DMG Bonus | The highest damage multiplier increase available. | | Circlet | Crit Rate or Crit DMG | Balance based on your substats. |
Substat Priority:
1. Crit Rate / Crit DMG (Aim for 1:2 Ratio) 2. Energy Recharge (ER) 3. HP% 4. Flat HP
The ER vs. HP Sands Dilemma
This is perhaps the most critical decision for a non-C6 Yelan:
If you are using an ER-less weapon (e.g., Aqua Simulacra, Skyward Harp) OR are not running two Hydro characters: You must use an Energy Recharge Sands to hit the 200-220% ER threshold, especially if using Emblem of Severed Fate. If you are running a strong ER weapon (e.g., Favonius Warbow) AND have two Hydro characters (including Yelan): You can strongly consider swapping to an HP% Sands. This offers a massive boost to her personal damage, as her HP pool will be significantly larger, provided you can still maintain around 180% ER.
General Rule of Thumb for Emblem Yelan: Aim for 200% ER minimum. If you hit that easily, switch the Sands to HP%.
Weapon Choices: The HP Catalyst
Yelan’s weapon choices heavily favor HP, Crit, and Energy Recharge.
5-Star Weapons (The Apex Predators)
1. Aqua Simulacra (Signature Weapon): The undisputed best-in-slot. It provides a massive Crit DMG secondary stat and a huge DMG bonus based on her Max HP. It lowers her ER requirements slightly, making HP Sands viable much earlier. 2. Skyward Harp: A fantastic alternative, offering Crit Rate secondary stat and a solid energy particle generator via its passive. Excellent if you struggle with Crit Rate. 3. Elegy for the End: A strong option if your team benefits heavily from the ATK/EM buff provided by its passive, turning Yelan into a dedicated buffer/sub-DPS hybrid. Home page: https://genshin.guide/
