Bioglandin Injection, which contains Alprostadil, is used primarily for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) and is sometimes used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension or other vascular conditions. It works by promoting vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), increasing blood flow to certain areas of the body, including the penis, by relaxing smooth muscles in the blood vessels. However, Bioglandin (Alprostadil) can pose risks for patients with heart conditions, and there are certain scenarios where it should be avoided or used with extreme caution. Situations Where Bioglandin Injection Should Be Avoided in Heart Patients: Severe Heart Disease (Uncontrolled Heart Failure): Bioglandin can lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels, which might further strain the heart, especially in individuals with severe heart disease or heart failure. In these patients, decreased blood pressure could worsen their condition or lead to dangerous complications. History of Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction): Patients who have recently had a heart attack should be cautious about using Bioglandin Injection . The vasodilation effects of the drug can place additional stress on the heart during recovery, potentially leading to complications. It may also interact with other medications used for heart conditions, such as nitrates or beta-blockers, which could further reduce blood pressure or cause adverse effects. Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension): Alprostadil (the active ingredient in Bioglandin) is a vasodilator, which means it can lower blood pressure. For individuals with already low blood pressure or those on antihypertensive medications, this can cause a further drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness, fainting, or a heart attack due to insufficient oxygen supply to the heart.
