Avana 100 mg is a medication primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains avanafil as its active ingredient, which belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Avanafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, helping men achieve and maintain an erection.

Contraindications are conditions or factors that make a particular treatment or medication potentially harmful or unsuitable for an individual. Here are the contraindications for using Avana 100 mg:

Hypersensitivity: Avana 100 mg is contraindicated in individuals who have a known hypersensitivity or allergy to avanafil or any other components of the medication. Serious allergic reactions, although rare, can occur and may require immediate medical attention.

Nitrates: Avana 100 mg should not be used concomitantly with nitrates or nitric oxide donors, such as amyl nitrite or nitroglycerin. Co-administration of avanafil with nitrates can lead to a sudden and severe decrease in blood pressure, which can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening.

Guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP) Stimulators: Avana 100 mg should not be used with guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) stimulators, such as riociguat. Co-administration of avanafil with cGMP stimulators can also lead to hypotension (low blood pressure).

Severe Hepatic Impairment: Avana 100 mg is contraindicated in individuals with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C). Avanafil is metabolized primarily by the liver, and severe hepatic impairment can lead to increased exposure to the medication, potentially increasing the risk of adverse effects.

Hypotension: Avana 100 should be used with caution in individuals with hypotension (low blood pressure) or those taking medications known to lower blood pressure. Co-administration of avanafil with antihypertensive medications or alpha-blockers can further lower blood pressure and may result in symptomatic hypotension.

Recent Stroke or Heart Attack: Avana 100 mg should not be used in individuals who have experienced a recent stroke (within the past 6 months) or heart attack (within the past 3 months). Sexual activity can put additional strain on the heart, and individuals with recent cardiovascular events may be at increased risk of complications.

Retinal Disorders: Avana 100 mg should be used with caution in individuals with retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa, as avanafil can alter retinal function and may worsen these conditions.

It's essential to consult a healthcare provider before starting treatment with Avana 100 mg or any other medication containing avanafil. They can provide personalized recommendations based on individual health status, medical history, and other relevant factors to ensure safe and appropriate use of the medication.
