Leather jackets have been popular for many decades, dating back to the early 1900s when military pilots used them for their durability and warmth. Leather jackets were associated with rebellious youth culture in the 1950s and 1960s, and were worn by motorcycle gangs and rock and roll performers. Leather jackets became popular in the punk and heavy metal movements in the 1980s, and they have remained a fashion standard to this day. Thus it's reasonable to conclude that pure leather jackets have been popular for a long time and will most likely remain so for many years to come.
