The anamalai tiger reserve , also known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, is a protected area located in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu and Kerala states in India. It was established in 1976 and covers an area of approximately 958 square kilometers. The Anamalai Tiger Reserve is spread over an area of about 1,400 square kilometers and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, elephants, Indian bison, sambar deer, wild boar, and several species of birds and reptiles. The reserve is also known for its rich biodiversity and is home to several endangered and endemic species such as the lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri tahr, the Nilgiri langur, and the Malabar giant squirrel. The Anamalai Tiger Reserve offers a variety of activities for visitors, including trekking, bird watching, wildlife safaris, and nature walks. It is an important tourist destination in southern India and attracts a large number of visitors every year.
