I am trying to understand the career scope after MCh vs DrNB and would appreciate some practical opinions.
For a doctor planning to build a long-term career in a super-speciality, I want to know whether there is any significant difference between the two pathways after completing training.
The areas I am particularly interested in are consultant jobs, opportunities in private hospitals, academic positions, research, and eventually developing a specialised clinical practice. Does the qualification influence these opportunities, or does clinical experience and the reputation of the training centre become more important after a few years?
I am also confused about how employers view MCh and DrNB. Online information often gives very general answers, but I would prefer to hear from doctors who have actually worked in hospitals after completing one of these qualifications.
For someone choosing a course today, would it be better to focus mainly on the qualification, or should factors such as patient load, surgical exposure, faculty, infrastructure, and the hospital's reputation receive more attention?
If anyone has completed MCh or DrNB and can share their experience regarding career growth, salary progression, and job opportunities, it would be very useful.
Which pathway would you personally choose and why?
