I have a question that I hope experienced travelers can help with. can you leave the airport during a layover?

I have an upcoming trip with a fairly long stop between can you leave the airport during a layover and I'm wondering if it's worth heading outside the airport for a few hours. I know the answer probably depends on things like immigration rules, how much time is available, and whether I need to collect and recheck my luggage.

For those who have done this before, how much extra time would you recommend leaving for security and getting back to the gate? Did you find it enjoyable, or did it end up feeling rushed? I'm also curious if there are situations where staying inside the terminal is simply the better option, even with several hours to spare.

I would appreciate hearing about real experiences, including any tips for planning ahead or mistakes to avoid. My goal is to make the most of the stop without creating unnecessary stress or risking a missed connection.

Thanks in advance for sharing your advice and personal experiences. Any practical suggestions would be really helpful.
