I'm currently exploring different career options after completing General Surgery and Urology is one field that has really caught my attention. I enjoy surgical work, but I'm trying to understand whether choosing Urology is the right decision in today's healthcare environment.
From what I've observed, the specialty offers a good mix of open surgery, minimally invasive procedures, endoscopy, and robotic surgery. It also seems to have a steady demand because urinary tract disorders, kidney stones, prostate enlargement, and urological cancers are becoming more common. However, I don't want to make a decision based only on what I read online.
I'd really like to hear from surgeons or doctors who are already working in this specialty. How is the work-life balance? Is the learning curve very steep compared to other surgical branches? What kind of career opportunities are available in private hospitals and corporate setups? Do you feel the demand for trained urologists is increasing?
Also, for someone who wants to build practical skills before pursuing higher specialization, is a fellowship a good option? I'd appreciate honest advice and real experiences from doctors who have been through this journey.
