I completely agree with the consensus here about the constant tradeoff between price and 24/7 access in Dubai. It really boils down to whether you need a premium climate-controlled unit in Al Quoz or if a basic warehouse further out is sufficient.
When I was downsizing my apartment last winter, I spent weeks scrolling through Property Finder looking for a place with an extra room just to hold my bulky furniture. I quickly realized that paying for extra residential square footage at current rental prices is a terrible idea. Renting an external storage unit makes much more financial sense.
I sat down and compared the options based on location and monthly cost.
* Al Quoz facilities: Excellent access and great security, but you pay a premium for the convenience. * DIP or Jebel Ali facilities: Considerably cheaper, but driving out there in traffic just to grab a few boxes is miserable.
I eventually used the full list of storage providers to map out the per-square-foot rates across different neighborhoods before making my choice. My main piece of advice is to be realistic about how often you will actually visit the unit. If it is only twice a year, take the cheaper option on the outskirts.
