So this thought hit me the other day when I visited my grandparents. They used to play a local board game with us every evening when we were kids, but now everyone was just glued to their phones, even my younger cousins. I asked them about the old game, and they said they barely remember the rules because they mostly play mobile card apps now. It felt strange to realize how quickly these small traditions disappear once everything moves to a screen. Do you think digitalization is actually wiping out traditional games, or is it just transforming how we play?

Funny you mention that, because I recently read https://opgram.com/how-a-foreign-game-became-more-indian-than-india/ and it talks about how even card games that used to be played physically have been taken over by mobile versions. It made me think of my own family — we used to play a simple traditional card game at holiday gatherings, but once mobile rummy apps became popular, everyone switched to those instead. I don’t think people intentionally abandon older games; it’s just that apps are easier, quicker, and more accessible. But yeah, digitalization definitely makes the old stuff fade unless someone deliberately brings it back during family time or community events.

Just stumbled onto this thread while browsing and the topic caught my eye. Personally, I think every generation naturally shifts toward whatever feels more convenient or entertaining at the time. Some traditions stick around, some slowly fade, and some return later in a different form. It’s kind of interesting to watch how people adapt old hobbies into new formats or forget them entirely. Not making a judgment here, just thought it was a cool observation about how habits evolve.
