It is typically determined by calculating a person’s body mass index (BMI), which is a measure of a persons weight in relation to height. A BMI of 30 or higher is usually considered obese.
Obesity results from a combination of genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, genetics, metabolism, and their socioeconomic status. It's not just a cosmetic concern but it is a complicated medical issue that will increase the risk of various health problems, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis.

In some cases, medications or weight loss surgery might be recommended, particularly when obesity poses a serious health risk. However, intervention through healthy lifestyle changes remain the best approach.
