When you sign out of your Apple ID on an iPhone or Mac, several key services and data linked to your account are affected. First, iCloud services are disabled, which means features like iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive, Notes, Contacts, and iCloud Backup will stop syncing. Any locally stored data remains on the device unless you choose to delete it during the sign-out process. You'll also be signed out of other Apple services such as the App Store, Apple Music, iMessage, and FaceTime, and you’ll lose access to purchased content that’s tied to your Apple ID unless it's already downloaded.
On iPhone, signing out also disables Find My iPhone, which turns off Activation Lock—a security feature that prevents unauthorized access to your device. This is especially important if you're selling or giving away the device. On a Mac, the same applies with Find My Mac. However, none of your personal data like photos, contacts, or documents stored locally will be deleted unless you choose to remove them.
Before signing out, Apple gives you the option to keep a copy of important data on your device, which will no longer sync with iCloud. You can still access these files locally, but they won’t update across other devices. Signing out is reversible—once you sign back in, your services and iCloud data will resume syncing as usual.
